www: Well written english with good use of media terminology

Ebi:Ensure you cover the high tariff question at the end and fully reference the oppositional readings.

Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.

For question 1 I missed out a mark by not directly talking about narrative codes like enigma codes or codes which suggest action or violence.

For question 2 I missed out on marks by not talking about how the media product reflects the uk work class and how the product is targetted towards an urban setting with a male focus.

For question 3 I missed out on marks by talking about how it allows producers to maintain an audience while evolving a genre.

For question 4 marks were missed out by not talking about oppositional readings.

Read this exemplar response from a previous Year 12 (an A grade) - note this was a slightly different paper in terms of the question wording (we've updated it to better reflect recent exams). Identify at least one potential point for each question from this student's paper that you could have mentioned in your assessment.

For question one I could have included talking about enigma codes as it would give the audience the question as to why the character is holding a gun.

For question two I could have talked about how the person in figure 2 is black which suggests that nike is attempting to market their products towards a more urban/streetstyle life.

For question three the point could have been made that producers are able to make large amounts of money.

For question four the point about how the industry is dominated by men could be made.

Identify your weakest question and write five bullet points that would improve on your original response. Use the mark scheme and exemplar paper to identify these points - particularly focusing on the anticipated content and the top level descriptors.

Question four is my weakest question as I missed out on many marks by not answering the question in depth.

Points which could have been made:

-Reinforcement of negative black stereotypes through images.

-The use of informal language could be seen as embracing street culture or a lack of education.

-A negotiated reading would be an acceptance of urban or hip-hop culture without identifying personally.

-The use of props such as jewellery could reinforce stereotypes of modern urban music.

-The phrase/rhetorical question "Who is music's number one genuis?" is open to many different readings by different audience demographics.
